Excerpted from the introduction to Goodbye Chaos, Hello Peace:First Things First-Are YOU Right With God?Throughout the following pages (of GCHP) you will hear me refer to God, and to his power to transform your life. The Bible makes it clear that on our own we are powerless to effect real, lasting change in our lives - we may be willing and determined to change, but we are still weak human beings, and ultimately we fall far short of all that we were designed to be. Jesus is the Light of the World. Do you feel like you’re living in darkness most of the time? Are you weary and down-trodden? My friend, the very first thing we need to make sure of, is that you have the Light in your life! All of what I am going to share with you and lead you through will be worth nothing unless you have the Power in your life to truly transform you - and that Power is God’s Holy Spirit. So, let’s put it to the test - answer these questions honestly: 1) Do you believe that Jesus Christ is the son of God, born of a virgin? 2) Do you believe he died on the cross to pay for the sins of mankind, including YOUR sins? 3) Do you believe he rose again bodily after the third day? 4) Do you accept Jesus sacrifice on your behalf, acknowledging that you cannot save yourself? 5) Have you committed your life to him - willingly surrendered control to Jesus as Lord of your life? If you can answer Yes to all of the above, then you are, according to the Bible, forgiven of all your sin, washed clean, made righteous, promised eternal life in heaven, and assured that God is with you and will never leave your nor forsake you. If you answered No to ANY of the above, then you have a choice - either take the necessary steps to be able to answer Yes, or live knowing that you do NOT have the promise of eternal life; that you are what the Bible calls "wicked,” or a sinner. If your answer was No, then please read all of the following before making a decision: I am about to describe the basic message of the Bible, often referred to as the Gospel, which simply means "good news." I'll try to be as simple and clear as I can, despite my natural tendency to wordiness. :-) Please, if you need more information or a better explanation on any point, email me and I will do my best to help you! 1) Genesis 1 tells us that in the beginning God created the Heavens and the Earth. He created the entire universe, and all that it contains. He created light and darkness, sun, moon, stars and earth, and on Earth he put oceans and dry land, trees, plants, birds, fish, animals, and man. 2) He created man in His own likeness, to rule over the creatures of the earth, and he placed man in a special place he had prepared called the Garden of Eden. God came down and walked with man in the garden, and they had direct fellowship and communication with each other. God provided a Tree of Life, and man was able to live forever - there was no death. God created man, in part, to have fellowship with him, but he did not want the response of a robot, who had no choice but to love him and obey him, but the freely given love and worship of people who could choose. In order to choose, there had to be an alternative. So God placed with in the Garden the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil, and gave Adam and Eve one command - "you may eat of any tree in the garden, but you must not eat from the tree of knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat of it you will surely die." 3) Along came Satan, disguised as a serpent. Understand just who Satan is. He was originally created as an angel, and a powerful angel at that. But Satan was not content to serve God; he wanted to BE God. In his pride, he decided that he would set himself up on the throne of God, and take over rulership. He persuaded 1/3 of the angels to follow him, and there resulted a great war in heaven between the angels of God and the angels of Satan (whom we call demons). End result: Satan was defeated and cast down out of heaven. When the day of judgment comes, Satan and his demons will be cast eternally into the Lake of Fire, but in the meantime he roams the earth seeking whom he may destroy (1 Peter 5:8). Satan hates humans, for we have been given the opportunity to freely receive the very thing that he desired - to reign with God. So, Satan is determined to try to prevent that at all costs, by keeping us from putting our trust in God, and his first ploy was to persuade Adam and Eve to disobey God…….. Adam and Eve knew that there was one thing they must not do - eat the fruit - but Satan used three classic arguments to persuade them - That the consequences God had stated (death) would not really happen, and that instead they would become like God, knowing good and evil - i.e. wise (appeal to the mind) that the fruit looked good (appeal to the senses) that the fruit was good to eat (appeal to the natural appetites) Of course, as a result, Adam and Eve both ate of the fruit, in direct disobedience to God's one command. God cannot lie - all actions have consequences, and while they did not immediately die physically, their rebellion brought sin into the world, along with all of it's results, which include physical death (man was no longer to live forever, but would die), spiritual death (they were no longer innocent, and knew both good and evil. As a result, God could no longer be in direct fellowship with them, and had to put them out of the garden - they became separated from God), and the effects were on the whole planet - instead of food growing freely and easily, man would now have to work to produce food, and weeds and pests would flourish, animals would begin to kill each other and the whole planet would begin to degenerate because of sin. God also made a covering for the naked bodies of Adam and Eve, by killing a lamb and using the skin to make clothes for them. This was to show that there can be no forgiveness (covering) of sin without the shedding (sacrifice) of innocent blood. 4) As all of mankind are descended from Adam and Eve, so all of us have inherited the sin nature, and all have a natural tendency towards sin. The Bible tells us "for all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:26) and "there is no one who is righteous, not even one" (Romans 3:10). Every one of us is a sinner. 5) Our sin separates us from God: "Surely the arm of the Lord is not too short to save, nor his ear too dull to hear. But your iniquities have separated you from God; your sins have hidden his face from you, so that he will not hear." (Isaiah 59:1-2) 6) There is NOTHING we can do to make ourselves right with God, or to save ourselves from death, either natural or eternal. No matter how good we try to be, we can never match up to God's standards, which are holiness and perfection. It is impossible: "all our righteous acts are like filthy rags" (Isaiah 64:6). We cannot earn our salvation. 7) God loves us, and planned to make a way for us to be able to be forgiven for our sins, washed clean, and restored to fellowship with him, and have eternal life. In order to do that, he came to Earth in bodily form as Jesus Christ. Jesus was fully God and fully man - he was perfect, and without sin. Jesus came for one purpose - to be put to death on the cross, even though he was innocent of all wrong-doing, and to suffer for your sins, and the sins of all mankind. His was a substitutionary death - he died in our place, so that we wouldn't have to. He paid the price for us! And not only that - he overcame the power of sin and death because not only did he die for us, but he rose again after 3 days - he is alive! 8) The Bible says "For God so loved the world that he sent his one and only son, so that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." (John 3:16) Jesus said "I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." (John 14:6) Jesus paid the price for our sins - but that does not automatically mean everyone in the world is now forgiven and has eternal life. No, it requires a response from us - in order to be forgiven for our sins and receive the gift of eternal life, along with fellowship with God in this life, we need to believe! And what is it we need to believe? That Jesus Christ is Lord, and that he died and rose again, and paid for our sins. And we need to accept that payment for OUR sins, and ask Jesus to be our Lord. "If you will confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with the heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. As the Scripture says, "Anyone who trusts in Him will never be put to shame." ....the same Lord is the Lord of all and richly blesses those who call on him, for, "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved."" Romans 10:9-13 You have a choice to make. Will you choose to believe that Jesus is Lord, died and rose again, and paid for YOUR sins? Will you put your trust in Him? If you do this, God has promised you eternal life, and to walk with you through your life here on earth, helping you each step of the way. If you are making that decision for the first time today, please let me know - I’d love to pray for you and encourage you. Have You Lost Your Way?I turned back to God, and gave him my WHOLE life, messes, muddles, debt, sin and all - and he TRANSFORMED it! He gave me beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning - he truly made something beautiful out of my life! Dear one, if you have lost your way, remember that God has not lost you! He knows right where you are. He never changes, and he loves you just as much right now as he did when he formed you in your mother’s womb, or when he sent his son to die for you - and that is a LOT!! All you need to do is come back to him. There is nothing you have done or failed to do that he cannot forgive you for, if you will only say you are sorry. Come back to him today - just tell him you are sorry, and that you love him. Let him wrap his everlasting arms around you and wash you clean once more! He’s waiting for you! Oh, and one hint: you don't have to FEEL love for someone - you can CHOOSE to love them by an act of your will. The feelings will follow. Also, if you don't think you are able to love someone (God, your spouse, or anyone you SHOULD love), then confess that to God and ask HIM to put his love for them in your heart! Or Maybe You Just Need RefreshingDo you feel that you haven’t wandered away from God, but that you are so thirsty and dry? Do you need refreshing? A pouring out of the Spirit in your life? The remedy for you is much the same - turn to God; seek him. Ask him to show you if there is anything you need to put right with him, and then ask him to refresh you, to pour his spirit into you. Spend some time worshiping him, and let him fill your cup with sweet, refreshing water! He loves you, and loves to reward those who diligently seek him. Be refreshed! |
